We all know that the Olympics have a very long and rich history. However, the Winter Olympics did not begin until 1924.

The first Winter Olympics were held in Chamonix, France in the French Alps. Sixteen nations competed that year.

Originally deemed “International Winter Sports Week,” the games were so successful that in 1928 the International Olympic Committee officially named the Winter Games of that year, which were held in St. Moritz, Switzerland, as the second Winter Olympics, retroactively making Chamonix the first, according to History.com.

Chimpanzee AI beat human on short memory Task

We think that we are bestowed with superior intelligence when compared with of the animal kingdom. Recently, the experimenters at the Primate Research institute in Kyoto University in Japan were able to train a chimpanzee named AI who performs better than humans on short term memory tasks.

Philip Seymour Hoffman Goes to Rehab for His Heroin-Snorting Problem

News has emerged that Philip Seymour Hoffman just got out of detox last Friday after a 10-day stay to kick an addiction that started with prescription drugs and culminated in snorting heroin.

Hoffman was 23 years sober before he fell off the wagon about a year ago — no official statement has been made, but he told TMZ that he's being supported by "a great group of friends and family." He's already back to making his next movie. [TMZ]

Philip Seymour Hoffman entered rehab for heroin abuse

 The actor, who has struggled with substance abuse in the past, had been living a sober lifestyle for over 20 years before he relapsed again last year.

 Hoffman told TMZ that the problem "started slowly with prescription pills, and recently escalated to snorting heroin." 

He also said that "the heroin use only lasted a week or so and he quickly realized he needed help, so he checked himself into a detox facility on the East Coast."

The actor credited his first attempt at sobriety for his success and said he believes that his life would be different if he had not stopped using drugs and alcohol.
 

Hoffman was lucky enough to recognize the signs of his heroin and prescription drug addiction before it was too late. 

 

He also had a supportive group of family and friends who encouraged him to seek treatment. 

 Living a life in the public eye can drive a person to abuse drugs and alcohol. 

It is important to remind anyone who feels external pressures that a sober lifestyle is necessary for long-term physical and mental health.
